A Great Lake

Hello all!

When I tell people that I’m a plein air painter, one of the first questions is normally, “where do you go to paint???” My answer, more or less, is usually; “wherever I go!” That's the handy thing about having a collapsible easel. And, when I want to paint a seascape, I usually choose a beach along Lake Erie, one of the five Great Lakes situated between The United States and Canada. Would this be a be called a seascape or lakescape then?? Take a look!

At this particular morning, two people came walking by, which isn't rare. However, when they walked closer I recognized one of them as my relative, Elaine! And so I added the two of them into my paint story. In a way, adding the elements or people around create a visual memory too. So above is Elaine’s Morning Walk… and below is a process shot!

The Lake Erie area provides so many great paint locations that are conveniently close to home. The Great Lakes also supply freshwater to around 40 million people a day. Furthermore, 56 billion gallons are used daily for agricultural/industrial purposes, according to a 2015 Michigan State study. A lot of our freshwater resource is misused or wasted - so educate yourself on how much you consume!

Have a colorful day!
