Summer Hues

Hello all!

Let’s talk about anxiety and art. I think it comes hand-in-hand with perfectionism and can be exhibited in all different forms. For me, it’s often the fear of creating in general. The “what if’s” of a blank canvas can be overwhelming. The “What if” I don’t pick the ‘right’ subject, composition, or lighting. “What if” it turns out terrible? Or the opposite, “what if” the work succeeds, wins awards, and I can’t repeat the strokes in the next painting?

Many authors that win a best-seller experience this when producing work post success. In fact, a great majority of artists, athletes, or others in competitive fields have these thoughts. And it’s normal, especially in today’s social media world. And, honestly, I hate social media, but also know that that’s where the art market has shifted towards too.

So, it’s a balance. But it's also good to know a lot of people experience these qualities or quirks. So in the end, we’re all not so different. Our thoughts, ideas, and creativity are just some of the things that keeps us unified. And that’s why it’s important to make art- (no matter if we think it’s crap).

That’s it for today. Now, go out and make something!

And have a colorful day,

xx Cass
