Evening Reflections At The Dock
Hello all!
Water is always fun to paint. It’s always a challenge, and at times, frustrating- but never dull! Both from life and from photographs reflections can look almost like mirror images. Once in a while, artists can replicate these reflections onto canvas. However, most of the time, mirror images do not translate very well in a painting.

Water is typically smoother and has more movement than whatever it’s reflecting. This understanding will ultimately cause water reflections to have softer edges and looser brushstrokes.
Here is the reflection I’m talking about!
And here is a process picture mid-paint. It was hard to get a good photo here because the sun was so bright! (This caused a bunch of sky holes and leaf shadows to speckle down.)
Have a colorful day,
