The “Perfect” Day

Hello all!

The location and day I created this end-of-the-summer painting was gorgeous. The day had been sunny with nice gentle breeze. The heat of the summer had gone but was still warm enough to not wear a jacket… it was like the perfect paint day.

Wait. Wait a second… Have you ever heard someone say that phrase? The perfect paint day?? (or some rendition of that phrase?). So many people who want to start outdoor painting say this. And why is that?? (Look below!)

When I first started plein air painting, I used that phrase a lot. And then I began to wonder, why? And, so I started asking around and listening to other artists about when they typically paint outdoors.

Answers were varied, but those who were either professionals or those that just needed to put food on the table added to my conclusion: there is NO perfect day.

In other words; if you’re waiting of inspiration to strike, or the perfect place to paint, or the perfect weather condition, you’re going to be looking a loooonnngg time.

Sometimes I pretend to be an explorer when I’m out to change perspective on things and open myself up to whatever lies ahead. Because, quite honestly, something is bound to mess up and not go according to plan. And that’s ok. It keeps things more interesting.

Have a colorful day,

xx Cass
