Shoo FLy, Don’t Bother Me

Hello all!

Just like someone turned on the lights, it’s starting to feel a bit like autumn. The very tips of the trees and other foliage have begun to turn those warm shades of yellow, red, and orange. When seasonal changes like this occur, I try to make fast brush strokes and rely on intuition, in hope of capturing the “feel” of the environment. This can be an exciting flow but can also become a chaotic process as well.

See what I mean below!👇

You can even see the chaos I created on my palette! I like to call this, “happy chaos.” I painted this during two separate sessions.

The first go was cut short, which sometimes happens when working in different locations and types of weather. But the second session was a definite new test on my being. And it can be said in one word; flies. *Dun Dun DUNNNN*

It is sometimes said that behind every good picture there is a story. This whole second session was completed with swarms- I mean DOZENS of biting flies. It was honestly terrible. Some of them even flew into my car and followed me home.

I probably looked like a crazed woman forcefully swatting them out the window, saying things like “get out of here!” on my drive home. I can laugh about it now. I think.

Have a colorful day,

xxCass
