Drawing People From Life

Hello all!

Drawing people from life is one of my favorite things to do. There’s a thrill about it similar to plein air. Here’s why: unless you are drawing from a model, people move. Capturing form (or landscape) when you don’t know how much time you’ve got to draw really helps to simplify thoughts and create a confident line. It’s sink or swim mode.

Sketching people in an environment or in a crowd helps us understand spacial awareness and characteristics of each person. People are all made with pretty much the same basic shapes, but the more we understand anatomy, the more smaller shapes and fine details we will see. All these details are what makes a person unique.

Have a colorful day!
